Essential Winter Towing Tips for UK Drivers
By Hitched Towbars Team

Towing Safely in Winter
Winter towing presents unique challenges for UK drivers. Cold temperatures, wet roads, and reduced visibility all require extra care and preparation.
Pre-Journey Checks
Before setting off, check your tyre pressures (both vehicle and trailer), all lights are working, and your mirrors provide adequate visibility. Ensure your towbar connection is secure and all safety chains are attached.
Driving in Wet Conditions
Increase your following distance, reduce speed, and brake earlier than normal. Remember that a loaded trailer increases your stopping distance significantly.
Snow and Ice
If conditions are severe, consider postponing your journey. If you must travel, ensure you have appropriate tyres and drive with extreme caution, especially on hills and bends.
Emergency Kit
Always carry a winter emergency kit including a torch, warm clothing, de-icer, and a charged mobile phone. It's better to be prepared for the unexpected.
